Setting up a workstation that doesn’t fight your back

Back and neck discomfort from desk work usually builds slowly from small, repeated strain — a screen too low, a chair with no support, a mouse too far away — rather than one obvious cause.

A few adjustments tend to make the biggest difference: the top of the screen roughly at eye level, elbows supported near a right angle, and feet flat on the floor or a footrest. None of this replaces proper treatment if pain has already set in, but it can reduce how much strain builds up day to day.

If discomfort persists despite a reasonable setup, that’s a sign worth having assessed rather than worked around indefinitely.
