Caring for coloured hair between visits
Coloured hair behaves a little differently to uncoloured hair day to day, and a few general habits can help it hold its finish for longer between visits.
Washing less often
Colour fades a little with every wash, so spacing washes out where your hair and scalp allow can help the colour last. A dry shampoo on in-between days is a common way to manage this.
Water temperature
Hot water opens the hair cuticle, which lets colour molecules escape faster. Rinsing with cooler water, especially on the last rinse, is a small change that adds up.
Sun and chlorine exposure
Both can alter colour tone over time. A hat or a leave-in product with UV protection is worth considering if you're outdoors often, and rinsing hair ahead of and right after a swim helps too.
When to come back in
Most root touch-ups are booked four to six weeks apart, though this depends on how fast your own hair grows and how much regrowth you're comfortable with. Your stylist can suggest a schedule suited to you.
